Scott’s Toffee Apple Recipe
Hi, its Scott here and with Halloween and bonfire night just around the corner I thought it would be nice to share a couple of festive recipes.
And starting with a fun treat that’s great to show off our home-grown apples and guaranteed to put a smile on anyone’s face and they are of course toffee apples and in this case maple & pecan toffee apples.
The kids are going to love them, and even the adults will be reverted back to childhood
So let jump into the kitchen and find out how they are made.
Ingredients
400g castor sugar
2 tsp white wine vinegar
250 ml Maple Syrup
50g butter
200g pecans, finely chopped.
8 of your finest eating apples
Method
Set up a piece of greaseproof paper on a heatproof surface. Then pour the sugar into a large pan with 200ml of water and cook gently for about 3 minutes, without stirring, until the sugar has dissolved its important not to stir at this point as the sugar will crystallise.
Now add the vinegar, maple syrup and butter. Bring to the boil and boil for 5-10 minutes until to mixture has gone a golden colour and when dripped into cold water it becomes firm.
Meanwhile, place the pecans on a large plate and push folks into each apple I use forks here as think it’s a little safer with the hot sugar, but you could use lolly sticks.
Remove the caramel from the heat. Pick up the first apple by the folk and dip into the caramel to coat completely, then roll the apple in the pecans to coat evenly and repeat with the rest of the apples if the caramel becomes cold and it becomes difficult to coat the apples just pop it back on the heat for a minute or two.
Place the apples onto the baking paper allow to cool then enjoy.
