Episode 359. Lets talk about crop rotation

In this weeks podcast I am answering a question from a listener about crop rotation. Hear my system of crop rotation and how the books tell us it should be done.

How do you rotate your crops? Let me know by emailing Richard@thevegrowerpodcast.co.uk or leave a comment below

    Hi,

I have a garden and allotment in (soggy) Somerset – 20 years in and still learning – love the podcast!

Just wanted to add something about crop rotation. Its not JUST about pests and diseases – its also about nutrients. Different crops take (or put back) nutrients into the soil. So you can use these to improve your crops. For instance brassicas should follow peas and beans as the legumes trap nitrogen. So when taking up the legumes, leave the roots in the ground. This is then perfect for growing brassicas – i never feed mine and get great crops!

    Keep up the great work
    Mel

  • Hi Mel.

You have made a very good point and one that I didn’t mention.
That’s great that you don’t need to feed your crops by using this method. Please keep us informed on allotment and garden performs.

    Richard.
