Episode 272. Veg for shady spots.

Join me in todays podcast where I am answering a question from a listener who has a plot which only receives 3 hours of sunlight a day but would like to grow veg in this space. I also share what I've been up to today.

The diary

Today I have been

  • Moving plants around to make space
  • Pricking out some seedlings
  • Sowing seeds (melon, mizuna, chilli, chard, basil and spinach)

Veg for shady spots.

£ hours sunlight is not very much sunlight at all but that doesn't mean its impossible to grow veg at all. In fact the listener who emailed in informs me that they could successfully grow Spinach, chard and rocket in this space.

After much thought this is what I came up with

  • Salad leaves or loose leaf lettuce
  • Radishes
  • Carrots
  • Broad beans
  • brassicas such as cabbages, kohl rabi, broccoli and spring greens

If you have grown crops successfully in shade then please let me know

What have you been up to in the garden this week? Let me know in the comments or Email me here.
