How much did I spend growing my own in May.
I'm a little behind getting this post out this month. Let's have a look at what was spent in May on the plots.
Quail and poultry.
During May I had to buy a 20kg bag of quail feed which cost me £11.50. I haven't bought feed since November so I don't think that is bad going.
I also had to buy a bag of wood shaving for the quail and chickens bedding. This cost me £2.50.
In total I spent £14.00 on the quail and chickens in May.
Compost and plants
As I'm potting in plants I've needed to but multipurpose compost in order to fulfill this. I buy 75 litres for £3.50.
When working in some garden centres I've also spotted some young plants that where being sold of cheap. I couldn't resist and so I spent £4.97 on a few vegetable plants.
This bring the compost and plants total too £7.47 in May.
Others.
The only other item I bought was a magazine which cost me £4.99.
Total spend for May.
In total, I spent £26.46. That makes May a pretty low-cost month.
How much did you spend in May on your plots? Let me know in the comments below.
Hi Richard,
We harvested £850 and spent £140 in May, so that’s a ‘profit’ of £710. A lot of that money went on the big brassica cage netting, steel fencing pins, seeds, rock dust, fleece, seaweed meal, lots of compost/mulch, new shears, early and late strawberry runners and large planting containers. I know you keep track of harvest value too, so it would’ve useful to subtract costs from value to get profit.
Fantastic Steve £710 profit is a wage for some people. I did plan to work out the profit etc however work has been crazy that I just haven’t had the time to do the maths. Next month I shall try and correct that. Thank you as always Steve.
