Seed compost. Glossary.

As part of new series of blog posts, I am typing up a few words with a bit of an explanation of what they mean and how it applies to us. This week the word is seed compost.

Seed compost.

Seed compost is a type of compost that has been refined for use for sowing seeds or starting cuttings. Also known as sowing and cutting compost or John Innes number 1.

It usually is very low in nutrients and is a very fine crumbly compost.

I like to use it to start my seeds off. As seedlings sprout and grow the light compost makes it easy for the seedling to push themselves through.

The particular type that I prefer can be found at the following link

What seed compost do you use, let me know in the comments below?
