Apple chutney

This recipe is one of my favourite and a very popular with others especially when I give them away as Christmas presents which is also a great way of using apples from your trees.

ingredients

1.2kg of peeled and cored apples.

2 onions.

500g sultanas.

750ml cider vinegar.

750g light muscavado sugar.

2 teaspoons mustard seeds.

2 teaspoons ground ginger

2 teaspoons cinnamon powder ( optional).

very simply chop the apples, sultanas, onions doesn't need to be chopped fancy but the smaller the faster it cook's.

place all ingredients into a slow cooker and give it a good stir then turn the slow cooker on with the lid on. Once the ingredients start to bubble remove the lid and leave to cook. It can take 8 hours but check and stir regularly. Once you can draw a spoon through the mixture and see the bottom for a few seconds the mixture is ready take off the heat and spoon into sterilized jam jars with vinegar proof lids. Seal and leave to cool.

store jars somewhere cool and dark. Mixture improves with time.
